The curtain will come down on the ninth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup on Sunday, with Spain and England contending for their first title. Both teams have been impressive in the tournament but Spain are obviously the surprise package. With their previous best record being a round-of-16 finish, reaching the final was historic.
La Roja have built much confidence since the start and will likely stick to their brand of football when they face England. Their ability to build from the back and sophisticated passing patterns could break England’s long ball style. Spain and England’s last three clashes ended in one draw and a win for each side.
England have been in red-hot form, posting a flawless run of six wins in the competition. This will be their first final in the Women’s World Cup, but the second for coach Sarina Wiegman, who led the Netherlands to the 2019 final. She lost that final to the United States but is now hoping for the best against Spain.
The Lionesses will register the return of Lauren James, who received a two-game suspension against Nigeria in the round of 16. It’s a huge boost to England’s attack, as the Chelsea striker will be looking to atone for her unsporting behavior. The European Champions have the quality to tie up their campaign with the ultimate prize.
FACTS:
- Spain have won once, drawn once, and lost thrice in their last five clashes with England.
- Spain have scored 17 goals and conceded seven so far in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
- Spain have played 13 World Cup games, winning six, while England have won 20 in 32 games.
- England have scored 13 goals and conceded five in the ongoing World Cup.
- Spain have won four times and lost once in their last five matches while England have won all five.
With an odd of 2.75 awardede by Bookmakers to each team, this definitely will be one of the best finals ever played in the history of the Women’s World Cup. Our team of experts also think this will go down the wire but a winner will be decided at the regulation time.

Sweden Women will face off against Australia Women at Lang Park in the FIFA Women’s World Cup third-place match on Saturday.
Sweden are set to play their fourth third-place match in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. This was clearly not their objective, as the team were gunning for their first title in the competition. However, winning bronze could be worthwhile compensation for the immense efforts they have deployed in this edition.
After knocking out the United States and Japan, Blågult became the top candidate for the title. They were favored by most predictions to overcome Spain in the semi-finals but they lost 2-1. Defeating Australia at home would be another huge feat but Sweden are highly motivated.
Australia reached the semi-finals for the first time in this edition. They were not billed to get the better of high-flying England and so their 3-1 defeat did not come as a surprise. However, the home side will hope to offer something to their supporters for their unwavering devotion to the team so far in the competition.
The Matildas will also make history if they win bronze as their best record remains a fourth-place finish. They will certainly enjoy a huge push but will that be enough to break Sweden? The Swedish team are one of the most complete in the tournament, boasting an impressive attack, midfield, and defense.
Sweden have played 46 World Cup matches, winning 27 as opposed to 10 wins in 32 matches for Australia. Sweden have lost only once in the ongoing World Cup. Sweden have scored 10 goals and conceded three in their last five matches. Australia have lost twice in the World Cup, scoring 11 goals and conceding six. Sweden have won four times and lost once in their last five matches while Australia have won thrice and lost twice.
From our experts’ view, this is Australia last chance to get a medal in the Women’s World Cup, and in years to come they might not have the opportunity to come this close again. The home support have helped propelled them this far and that support will be needed more than before in today’s game against Sweden.
To Bookmakers, it will be a close call and as a result have awarded odds of 2.40 for Sweden to win and 2.90 for Australia to get a win, leaving a full time draw at 3.50 odds.

Colombia take on Jamaica at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Round of 16 on Tuesday for a place in he quaterfinals.
Colombia are in the round of 16 for the second time. They were unable to progress beyond this stage in 2015 during their second appearance in the World Cup. However, they’re starting off as hard-driving contenders this time and could be a force to be reckoned with in Australia and New Zealand.
They beat South Korea 2-0 in their first game before pulling off a shock 2-1 win against powerhouse Germany to confirm their credentials. They eventually finished atop Group H with six points despite a 1-0 setback against Morocco in their last game.
France and Brazil had been largely tipped to dominate Group F, with Jamaica and Panama expected to become the first teams to pack up and leave. However, pundits quickly reviewed their predictions when Jamaica stood up to France in the group opener that ended goalless, much to the disappointment of the Europeans.
The Reggae Girlz proved that the result wasn’t fortuitous following up with a win against Panama and another goalless draw, this time against Brazil. Jamaica ended second with five points behind France (seven points) to qualify for their first Round of 16 at the World Cup.
Colombia and Jamaica have met twice, with each side prevailing once. In their first clash, Jamaica won 2-1 while Colombia came out on top in the second 2-0. Colombia have suffered only one defeat in their last five games. Colombia have scored four goals and conceded twice at the World Cup. Jamaica have scored once and are yet to concede at the World Cup. Colombia have won twice, drawn twice and lost once in their last five games, the same as Jamaica.
A close game expected from both teams today and with Colombia emerging Bookmakers’ favourite with a odd of 2.30, one cannot write Jamaica off as the Bookmakers have awarded them odss of 3.60 to progress.
