“When You Play With The Senior Players, You Can Only Grow, He’s Got A Lot Of Potential”

Written By Onyeka Daniel

Over the weekend, Inter Milan continued their almost total domination in the Scudetto race, getting the better of Lecce away from home despite missing a number if their first team players for this encounter, but the players that were called upon managed to get the job done.

More Details

Along with the high score line, one of high points of the game was the introduction of Nigerian midfielder, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro in the 76th minute, replacing Davide Frattesi. For football Agent, Oscar Damiani, he feels that the youngster is an “intelligent young man” who can learn a lot from his senior teammates.

The agent spoke to FCInterNews, praising the 19-years-old following his senior debut for the Nerazzurri. The teenage midfielder has been playing for the Primavera team since his arrival last year from Remo stars, with Inter beating the likes of Real Madrid and Benfica to his signature.

The Nigerian’s talent had caught the eye of a number of clubs. But Inter were the team to convince him with their project. Akinsanmiro is still just nineteen. Therefore there is hardly a rush for him to start making an impact in senior football. But every experience at the top level counts for a player in the 19-year-old’s position.

Akinsanmiro got a big one away in Puglia yesterday. He got a feel for what it’s like being on the pitch with his senior teammate, at the Serie A level. There will still be a long way for the Nigerian to go. But yesterday’s senior debut was undoubtedly a very big step for him. “He’s an interesting young guy,” Damiani said of Akinsanmiro.

“He’s very intelligent, a very good player.” “I met him at the tournament in Viareggio,” the agent, who acted as an intermediary in Akinsanmiro’s move to Inter, said. Damiani said that “Inter did well to sign him. And it wasn’t easy, considering his non-EU status.” “Congratulations to the Nerazzurri, who signed him. And to the player, who has been training and growing well.”

“Then when you play with senior players, you can only grow,” the agent observed. “He’s got a lot of potential.” Asked if it’s true that Real Madrid wanted to sign Akinsanmiro, Damiani said “A lot of clubs wanted him.” “But Inter are very good at working with young players,” he added.

“They really worked to convince him to join,” Damiani said. He is bound to get more opportunities to showcase his talent with the main team in upcoming games too.

Meanwhile…

The club have confirmed that Turkish midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has suffered a muscle strain ahead of their Serie A match against Atalanta. The club made an official statement regarding medical tests that the player underwent today.

These revealed a “slight muscle strain” in the his right thigh. Simone Inzaghi had earlier confirmed that Calhanoglu was not at his best condition physically, which is why he did not play against Lecce. The tests confirmed that Calhanoglu has suffered a slight muscle strain in the adductor longus muscle of his right thigh. It would seem virtually out of the question that the midfielder will be able to return in time for the team’s next match.

Inter play again in just two days. They host Atalanta in Serie A on Wednesday evening. That match will be played in midweek, as it is a make-up match for the fixture that the Nerazzurri missed whilst participating in the Supercoppa Italiana last month. However, it is not exactly clear when Calhanoglu will be able to return beyond that.

The following two matches in Serie A are against Genoa and Bologna. And then, there will be the hugely important Champions League round of sixteen second leg away to Atletico Madrid. That is certainly a match in which Inter would want a key player like Calhanoglu available. Calhanoglu’s recovery timeline should become clearer in the next couple of days.

Then, there can be clear ideas as to which matches the Turk will be able to return in. However, it is virtually certain that he will miss the match against Atalanta. In his absence, Albanian midfielder, Kristjan Asllani should continue in the regista role while Nicolo Barella and Henrikh Mkhitaryan should complete the midfield trident on Wednesday and possibly against Genoa over the weekend.
