Werder Bremen in talks for Tahith Chong

Reliable German media outlet, BILD are reporting that Werder Bremen have shown interest in Manchester United’s academy product, Tahith Chong.

The Netherlands under-21 player has been with Manchester United since 2016 after moving from Feyenoord academy where he spent seven years. He made his Premier League debut with the Red Devils in March 2019 but has struggled for regular game time since then

Chong’s contract with Manchester United runs out in 2022 and according to BILD, his advisers, Mohammed Sinouh and Roy Rajber have already been in Bremen for talks. Werder’s scouting boss was reportedly also present at the meeting.

The proposed move is expected to be a loan deal as Man United are reluctant to let one of their gems leave them permanently. Werder Bremen however still lack the funds needed to make the move happen due to outgoing deals yet to be completed.

Werder Bremen’s sporting director, Frank Baumann described Chong as a player with “a lot of pace” and admitted that “his profile fits because of our situation. He is a player who could be interesting.”. A move to Bremen with regular playing time could just be what his career needs at the moment.

Chong scored fourteen goals and delivered seven assists in thirty one reserve league games for Manchester United reserves last season. With the senior team however, he was limited to just three appearances for the team that finished third in the Premier League.
