UWCL: Barcelona Coach Expects Tough Test Against Roma

With Spanish Champions, Barcelona set to face Italian league leaders, AS Roma in the quarter-final of the 2022/2023 UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL), the Blaugrana coach Jonatan Giraldez is looking forward to a tough game.

Barcelona’s invisibility in the league is undoubtedly a wonderful one but it still has to stamp its authority in Europe after losing last season’s final to Lyon.
Giráldez while speaking to the media ahead of today’s league encounter with Deportivo Alaves gave his thoughts on the quarter-final game with the Italian side.
“When you get to the quarter-finals, any tie is tough. Whilst Roma are making their first appearance in the competition, they are going very well in the Italian league.”

Roma which is making its debut at this stage of the competition as well as the group stage made it out of the same group as Wolfsburg and gave the German Champions a huge fight at home.
“They gave Wolfsburg a fright and we know it will be a competitive tie. We have looked at their team and we have to prepare well to go into the tie in good shape.”
The winner of the two-legged tie will face either Lyon or Chelsea in the semi-final.

The dates for the game between Barcelona and AS Roma have been confirmed.
The first leg will take place at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday, March 21.

The return leg will hold at Camp Nou on Wednesday, March 29.
The Spanish side also released its squad list to face Deportivo Alavés on Saturday with Keira Walsh, Alexia Putellas, Graham Hansen, Mariona Caldentey, Jana Fernandez, Ingrid Engen, and Cata Coll all ruled out.
Mariona Caldentey has discomfort in her left thigh and won’t be available for the match against Deportivo Alavés.
