North Carolina Courage put pressure on the United States of America (USA) National Women Super League (NWSL) leaders, Orlando Pride after recording a 2-0 victory over Portland Thorns in the early hours of Sunday, June 27, 2021.
Second half brace from Lynn Williams lifted North Carolina Courage to a 2-0 win against Portland Thorns.
League leader, Orlando Pride suffered a 2-1 defeat at Houston Dash.
Mexican Maria Sanchez scored the opening goal of the game for Houston Dash before Veronica Latsko increased their lead to two in the 26th minute off an assist from Sophie Schmidt.
Gunnhildur Yrsa Jonsdottir’s 49th-minute goal for Orlando Pride was not enough as Houston Dash ended up with a 2-1 triumph.
In the other game, Washington Spirit earned a 1-2 win at Kansas City.
The implications of the latest results meant that Orlando Pride’s lead has been cut down to two points after playing a game more than second-placed North Carolina Courage.
Nevertheless, Orlando Pride still occupies the leadership position at the top of the table with 15 points from eight games, two points ahead of North Carolina Courage.
Portland Thorns and Washington Spirit with 12 points apiece occupy the third and fourth positions respectively after seven games.
