US NWSL: Ifeoma Onumonu Inspires Gotham FC To Victory Over OL Reign

The Nigerian forward scored her second league goal as her United States of America (USA) National Women Super League (NWSL) side, Gotham FC defeated OL Reign 0-3 on Saturday, June 26, 2021.

Onumonu who got her first national team call up with the Super Falcons of Nigeria at the 2021 US Summer Series scored the first goal of the game in the 38th minute.

She received a pass from Margaret Purce, moved past OL Reign’s goalkeeper, Sarah Bouhaddi before slotting the ball into the back of the net.

The goal was her second of the campaign for Gotham FC with an assist which was achieved in their subsequent game against Orlando Pride.

In the 60th minute, Margaret Purce scored her goal after receiving a pass from Nahomi Kawasumi.

From a counterattack, Evelyne Viens locates Dominique Richardson in the 85th minute.

The latter coolly hit the bouncing ball into the back of the net for Gotham FC’s third goal of the game.

Gotham FC occupy the fifth position on the league table with eleven points from six games.

They will welcome Kansas City in their next encounter on July 3, 2021.

American captain, Megan Rapinoe and French forward Eugenie Le Sommer could not salvage a good result for OL Reign as the Club occupies the ninth position on the league table with seven points from seven games and will travel to play Houston Dash in their next league game on July 3, 2021.
