Sydney Retain A-League Title

Sydney clinched the 2022/2023 A-League Women’s title after a 4-0 win against Western United in the Playoffs final on Sunday.

Madison Haley scored the first goal of the game for Sydney in the fourth minute from Mackenzie Hawkesby’s assist at the Commbank Stadium, Sydney.
Haley turned provider for Natalie Tobin who converted the second goal in the 18th minute.
After the interval, Sydney Women were not satisfied with the two-goal lead and surged forward to add more to the goals.
Princess Ibini increased the lead to three from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute to solidify her team’s advantage.
Haley scored her second goal of the encounter to make it 4-0.

The two teams that played the Playoffs final were the top teams at the end of the regular season.

Sydney top the log with 40 points, a point ahead of Western United after 18 regular season games.
Melbourne duo of Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory with 30 and 29 points respectively also qualified for the Playoffs.
The second seed, Western United made it to the final after a 1-0 win over Sydney in the quarter-final.
Melbourne Victory defeated Melbourne City 4-1 on penalties in the quarter-final to set up a semi-final clash with Sydney where the latter secured a 1-0 win to make it to the final.
