It’s no secret that English Premier League side, Manchester United will prioritize the signing of a striker above all other signings during the January transfer window despite the current goal scoring form of Marcus Rashford.
Burnley striker Wout Weghorst joined Man Utd in January on a loan deal until the end of the season but it seems unlikely he will be part of their long-term plans.
Several names have been floating around as possible targets, including Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane and Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen, but according to club legend, Paul Scholes, the Red Devils should instead be going for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez due to his attributes.
After yesterday’s win over Real Betis in the Europa League, Scholes was speaking to BT sport and he had these to say on his ideal striker for the club; “I like Lautaro Martinez at Inter Milan. “I think he is a Ten Hag type of player, he likes a centre forward that will run about, be aggressive, get against people.
“I like United’s current options, I like Rashford, I like Martial, but Martial just can’t stay fit. So there are options out there.” Given his combative nature on the field, it is quite understandable why Scholes wants the club to sign the World Cup winner.
But actually signing him will be a different ball game entirely as he’s currently tied to a long term contract to the Nerazzurri and will require a bid of about €80 to €100 million to sign him.
Considering the fact that it would require €20 million more to sign either Kane or Osimhen, it’s obvious who the Red Devils will be going for as the latter two are rated above Martinez at the moment.
A move for Dutch defender, Denzel Dumfries looks to be shaping up for Manchester United in the summer as the EPL club is reported to be prepared to offer their Swedish defender, Victor Lindelof in a swap deal.
As part of his demands for the summer transfer window, United boss also wants a new right-back. In doing so, one of Portuguese star Diogo Dalot, who will be out of contract in 2024 or Aaron Wan-Bissaka could be sold.
The Nerazzurri are in dire need of a centre-back after Milan Skriniar announced that he would be joining French side, PSG in the summer and the club have been looking at several names as a replacement.
With their budget very limited, they may be forced to look into the free agent market, but with this new opportunity arising, it could be a blessing in disguise. But the Italians are looking to bring in some sort of transfer fee for Dumfries to help their financial situation.
The proposed swap deal is described as a ‘real possibility’ with Lindelof falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford. The former Benfica man is now fourth choice under Ten Hag and will be allowed to leave this summer, with his deal expiring in 2024.
