Reports coming out of Italy suggest that Rennes are close to completing a deal for Juventus’ Italian defender, Daniele Rugani.
Romeo Agresti of Goal reports that the French club has reached an agreement with Juventus on a loan move for the former Empoli centre back. Juventus are expected to earn around 1.5 million euros for the move while Rennes have agreed to cover the entire wages for the player.
Rennes will be participating in the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history and the club has been put in the same group as current Europa League holders, Sevilla, 2012 Champions League winners, Chelsea and another newcomer, Krasnodar. The club is working to give the coach, Julien Stephan a competitive squad capable of doing well in the continental competition whilst remaining competitive in Ligue 1.
Rugani has struggled to hold down a regular shirt in the Juventus first team since his arrival at the club in 2015. Currently, he is down the pecking order under manager, Andrea Pirlo as the likes of Matthijs De Ligt, Leonardo Bonucci, Merih Demiral and Giorgio Chiellini are currently favoured ahead of him. A move to France could help him find some continuity as he holds a very small chance of making Roberto Mancini’s Italy list for Euro 2020 next summer.
