Roma Close In On Former Milan Director As Romelu Lukaku Leaves Roc Nation Sports

Written By Onyeka Daniel

Italian side, AS Roma are closing in former AC Milan director, Ricky Masssra as his presence certainly did not go unnoticed last Sunday at the Stadio Olimpico during Roma’s 7-0 demolition of Empoli, something that ended up costing Paolo Zanetti his job.

More Details

After leaving the Rossoneri at the end of last season, Massara could get another job in Serie A and with a club that he certainly knows very well. The former Milan sporting director is still without a contract after he and Paolo Maldini were controversially sacked back in June and is evaluating various options to return to work as early as the current season.

Massara was named as director of football of Roma in October 2016, taking over from Walter Sabatini. He re-joined Sabatini at Inter and Jiangsu Suning, before returning to Roma in June 2018 as the club’s general secretary.

Now, Tiago Pinto wants to bring him back to the capital again as he has a deep respect for Massara, and the two would like to work together to build an even stronger Roma with news expected in the coming weeks.

There’s another report from England that EPL side, Tottenham Hotspur are targeting the Roma director to replace the suspended Fabio Paratici. Consequently, Massara could replace Pinto if he makes the switch to England, but it will be hard for Spurs to convince the Giallorosi to let Pinto go.

The Giallorosi will be kicking off their Europa League campaign today with a game against Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol away from home, a game that will also see their manager, Jose Mourinho start his ban UEFA ban after his conduct in the final of last season’s Europa League final between Roma and Sevilla.

Meanwhile…

Belgian striker, Romelu Lukaku has officially ended his partnership with agency Roc Nation Sports, who have been representing the Roma loanee for close to five years. Lukaku no longer appears on the front page of Roc Nation’s website, and the decision for the two parties to split was taken shortly after Lukaku’s loan to Roma was completed.

Though Lukaku enjoyed some of the best years of his career while tied to Roc Nation, the summer just gone was about as turbulent as it could possibly get. The Belgian international had been expected to re-join Inter, having represented the Nerazzurri on loan in 2022-23, but after it was revealed that he had been entertaining talks with rivals Juventus, that proposition was quickly taken off the table.

There had also been suggestions of a possible move to Saudi Arabia, as well as a potential part-exchange deal between Juventus and parent club Chelsea involving Bianconeri striker Dusan Vlahovic, but neither of those moves came off either.

Eventually, Lukaku joined Roma, who had been in desperate need of a new striker all summer, on loan for the 2023-24 campaign, Roc Nation are yet to comment on the decision to part company with Lukaku. Roc Nation’s remaining roster of athletes includes Milan’s Samuel Chukwueze, Inter’s Federico Dimarco as well as a host of other household names, such as Kevin De Bruyne and Marcus Rashford.
