Report: Jovetic To Join Hertha Berlin

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Hertha Berlin have signed former Fiorentina and Manchester City forward, Stefan Jovetic on a free transfer.

The Bundesliga side barely survived relegation to the Bundesliga 2 last season and will be looking to bolster its attack which already consists of Dodi Lukebakio and Krzysztof Piatek.

After adding Kevin-Prince Boateng to their ranks earlier in the summer, the club has added the 31-year-old Montenegrin to Pal Dardai’s squad for the 2021/22 season.

Jovetic is well travelled across Europe. Since leaving Partizan in 2008, he made a name for himself as one of the brightest young prospects in Europe with Italian Serie A side, Fiorentina, scoring 35 goals across 116 Serie A games in his five-year spell at the club.

Stefan Jovetic left Fiorentina in 2013 in a deal believed to be worth around €27 million. He however struggled to replicate his Fiorentina form at the English club mainly because of injuries and was sent out on loan to Italian giants, Inter Milan.

His performances for Inter were enough to convince the club to sign him to a permanent deal, but he struggled again for game time under Frank De Boer and Stefano Pioli before he was sent out on loan to Spanish first division side, Sevilla.

In 2017, he was signed by Monaco on a four-year deal as a replacement for Kylian Mbappe who left the club for Paris Saint Germain. At the Paris based club, he was able to rediscover a bit of his form. In the 77 games that he played for the French club, he had 26 goal contributions as he saw out his contract with the club.

Lazio had been linked with a move for the forward in the past, but the player’s high salary demands meant that the Biancocelesti had to look else where.
