While for the Norwegian striker, his options were more open unlike Mbappe, who was hovering between joining Real Madrid or staying at PSG.

Haaland’s father, Alfie Haaland, has now come out to explain the reason behind his son joining the Cityzens, which comes from the documentary ‘Haaland: The Big Decision’. In the documentary, Haaland said that City coach, Pep Guardiola played a role in his decision.

“I have never transferred to a club because of the manager,” Haaland said. “But it is a big plus with [Pep] Guardiola at City, as he is the best manager in the world. “It’s the best sporting project in the world at the moment and it’s where I will do my best.”

Before his move, several top European clubs were interested in signing him, including Real Madrid and Alfie Haaland has now ranked the clubs in an order. “On our list, I think City is the best team,” he said.

“Bayern Munich is number two. We have Real Madrid as number three, Paris Saint-Germain as number four. “We also have some English teams other than City who are quite good. Liverpool and Chelsea. Also, there is Barcelona. They are sort of in the same row.”

Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, would later go on to reveal why the club didn’t sign Haaland, because they already “have the best nine in the world”. “We have the best nine in the world and we weren’t going to bring in Haaland to have him on the bench, right?” Perez told El Chiringuito.

Meanwhile…

But according to reports from AS, Real Madrid haven’t given up on the possibility of signing Haaland, infact, they plan to make a move for him and have a well thought out plan to sign him in 2024.

Haaland’s contract contains a €180 million release clause, that comes into effect in 2024 and that is when the Los Blancos intend to make their move. By then, Benzema would have left the club and maybe retired, leaving a hole in their number 9 position which Haaland is expected to fill.

One can say that the €180 million would be a huge transfer fee to pay for any player. But then, Haaland seems like something special and given that the club was ready to spend similar amount on Mbappe, then it’s safe to say that they would be more than willing to spend such on Haaland too.
