After a long, successful negotiation with Crotone president, Gianni Vrenna and medicals completed, Junior Messias is now a Milan player .

In an attempt to replace Hakan Calhanoglu who signed for rivals, Inter, Milan have brought the 30-year-old on board from Serie B side Crotone. The two companies have found an agreement for the transfer of the player, which will come with the formula of a paid loan, at a cost of €2.6 million, with a fixed redemption right of €5.4 million plus additional €1 million bonus.

“The deal is done, on loan with an option to buy,” Vrenna told Sky Sport Italia and Calciomercato.com.

“The lad is pleased, Milan strongly wanted to sign him because they believe in his qualities. I hope the pitch will do the talking. I am also a Milan fan, so I have two reasons to be happy.”

Messias’ Serie A experience came with Crotone last season. He scored nine goals and provided four assists in 36 matches.

Of course, there is risk attached to acquiring a 30-year-old player with very minimal top-flight experience. On the other hand, Messias has been steadily improving and played well last season.

Messias might not be a starter and he’s not the ‘big’ name that Milan faithfuls hoped for. With that being said, he clearly has a strong work ethic and will surely fight to be the best player he can be.

Meanwhile…

AC Milan are no longer interested in acquiring James Rodriguez from Everton, as ESPN claims according to sources at the club.

Rodriguez, since the exit of Carlo Ancelotti, has been an outcast at the Merseyside. The Colombian is both very experienced and talented, but Milan decided to look elsewhere.

With Ibrahim Diaz, Rafael Leao,Sandro Tonelli, Ismael Bennacer, Frankie Kessie and newly added Tiemoue Bakayoko all playing similar roles to Rodriguez, Milan would prefer to add a low profile midfielder and have settled for Junior Messias from Crotome.

From an outside point of view, Messias is a cheaper option, especially wage wise. Milan have been shrewd with their cash this summer, and Messias is likely part of this low-cost approach.
