National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Commissioner Jessica Berman gave updates on the league’s expiring television (TV) contract this week prior to the Challenge Cup.

More Details

Increased viewership for the 2023 season is giving the league a boost during negotiations, she said.

CBS’ current contract with the NWSL is set to expire after this year.

The NWSL expects to announce its next broadcast deals during the 2023 postseason later this fall.

The NWSL expects to announce its next broadcast deals during the 2023 postseason, Berman said.

Increased viewership for the 2023 season — by 20% on CBS and by 50% on Paramount+ — is giving the league a boost during the negotiations, according to the commissioner.

The North Carolina Courage won their second straight Challenge Cup title on Saturday, with a 2-0 victory over Racing Louisville.

The win came after a long weather delay that led to the majority of the game being streamed on digital platforms after premiering on CBS.

Nineteen-year-old Courage midfielder Manaka Matsukubo became the youngest player to ever start a Challenge Cup game.

None other than Brazil star Kerolin opened the scoring for North Carolina, slotting the ball home from a tight angle in the 28th minute.

The victory earned the Courage their seventh league trophy, which includes three Shield wins and two NWSL titles.
