The Washington Spirit remains undefeated after defeating Angel City 1-0 in stoppage time last weekend.
More Details
The goal came after Angel City FC’s (ACFC) M.A. Vignola was called for a handball in the box, and Ashley Hatch stepped up to score the penalty.
The goal was reviewed using VAR (Video Assistance Referee), which the National Women’s Soccer (NWSL) implemented for the first time this season.
“When I watched it back on the big screen, it looked like it hit the side of her,” said ACFC midfielder Dani Weatherholt.
“Super unfortunate for another VAR called to not go our way, but I think it is what it is at this point.”
