This week, North Carolina Courage and Racing Louisville made a surprising trade.

More Details

Courage captain Abby Erceg and fellow defender Carson Pickett were traded to Louisville in exchange for the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) outside back Emily Fox.

While both teams are getting excellent players, the moves were unexpected.

Fox was Louisville’s first-ever draft pick, going No. 1 in 2021.

Erceg has won numerous NWSL Shields and championships with the Courage, and Pickett is one of the best outside backs in the league.

Erceg expressed surprise herself at the swap.

“I am as shocked and disappointed as you are,” she posted.

“The intention to see out my career with a club in which I have so many fantastic memories comes to an end, as that intention is unfortunately not a shared one.”

Erceg and Pickett join Merritt Mathias, Diana Ordoñez, and Debinha as players who have departed North Carolina in the last month.

USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski estimated the first week of January that Macario was 4-5 weeks away from participating in full training.

The 23-year-old has not played in a match since tearing her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in June during one of Lyon’s final matches of the 2021/2022 season.

She is targeting February or March for her return, with the question now being whether she will be available for the SheBelieves Cup starting on February 16.
