Written By Onyeka Daniel

The next few days will probably be decisive for Napoli as the club try to chart a course that would see them join the teams that would be competing for the Serie A title again, while also ensuring that they qualify for European football too.

More Details

They’ve lost the Scudetto to Inter Milan and with reports that they’re close to appointing Antonio Conte as their next manager, it could possibly push one of their star players out of the club, against the wishes of the club.

After Kvicha Kvaratskhelia’s agent confirmed there has been a proposal from Paris Saint-Germain, reports are growing he wants out of Napoli, as the arrival of Conte does not excite him. The Georgia international is still under the same contract he signed when arriving from Dinamo Batumi in the summer of 2022.

So, he is earning only €1.5m per season, making him one of the lowest earners in the team. “Interest from Saudi clubs is not true, but there is interest and an offer from PSG. It all depends on Napoli and De Laurentiis,” Kvara’s agent Mamuka Jugeli told Georgian reporters recently.

However, this is not about the money, but the increasing frustration that was entirely evident in his performances over the last year. Kvaratskhelia repeatedly looked irritated when substituted by any of the three coaches in charge of Napoli this season, while he was also annoyed at Serie A defenders figuring out his quirks, repeatedly cutting inside from the left to shoot with his right foot.

Now Sports Zone in France report that ‘Kvaradona’ wants to leave Napoli this summer also because he is not remotely excited at the idea of Conte taking over next season. If used wide in a 3-5-2 formation, then he would be further away from the goal and even more frustrated.

Paris Saint-Germain are seeking a player to fire up the crowd after losing Kylian Mbappé and Kvaratskhelia would fit the bill. The initial target had been Kvaratskhelia’s teammate, Victor Osimhen, but the Nigerian striker is said to favor a move to England, to join either Chelsea or Arsenal.

Also, his huge release clause is said to be non-negotiable. La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that PSG have proposed €80m to sign Kvaratskhelia, although Napoli may well want more. In the end, the appointment of the former Spurs and Inter Milan coach will likely push Kvaratskhelia out of the club, but the Partenopei may take another approach.

The future of Lazio coach Igor Tudor is reportedly uncertain ahead of crunch talks with the club’s hierarchy. The Biancocelesti appointed the Croatian in March following the departure of Maurizio Sarri. The 48-year-old immediately implemented drastic changes to the playing style and tactical formation.

This has left several players struggling to fit into the system, but he was able to get some great results on the pitch too. According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà, Lazio would like to keep Tudor at the helm, but this could leave them with a host of squad problems, as some players aren’t happy with the manager’s methods.

This includes Matteo Guendouzi who has already expressed his desire to leave following recurring altercations with the coach. Moreover, the likes of Gustav Isaksen and Manuel Lazzari find themselves ousted. Therefore, Lazio will soon hold talks with the former Juventus defender to discuss their market plans.

If the two parties manage to reach a compromise, they will move forward together. Otherwise, they could opt for an early divorce. In the latter case, Pedullà names Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano as a possible replacement. The latter is well-accustomed to the 4-3-3 system, so he should be able to work with the squad that was assembled under Sarri’s watch.

Also, Monza manager Raffaele Palladino could also emerge as a possible solution, if he were to remain available. Should Tudor leave Lazio, he could become an option for Napoli. It should be recalled that Aurelio De Laurentiis tried to bring Tudor to the club.

But the two parties failed to reach an agreement over the length of his contract. The club President wanted a deal until the end of the season while Tudor wanted a longer contract and in the end, Walter Mazzari was brought in before he was also replaced by Francesco Calzona.
