Napoli Open Up A 12 Point Lead As Spalletti Sets New Serie A Record

The league leaders got the better of Salernitana in the last match day of the first half of the season.

Giovani De Lorenzo and Victor Osimhen scored in either halves to send Napoli to a 12 point advantage at the top.


Napoli under Luciano Spalletti continued their almost perfect run as they put two goals past Salernitana.

Captain, Di Lorenzo scored in the added time of the first half to put the visitors ahead before league top scorer Victor Osimhen doubled the advantage three minutes after he restart.

The Azzurri came off the back of a disappointing week where they got bundled out of the Coppa Italia by Cremonese who progressed after penalties.

Guillermo Ochoa had kept Napoli at bay for most part of the first half before the Italian fullback broke the deadlock deep into the first period.

Nigerian forward Osimhen then took his tally for the season to 13 as he finished with calm in the 48th minute to seal victory.

The Partenopei are looking at winning their first Scudetto since 1990 and have now opened a 12 point gap at the top of the table.

Salernitana meanwhile remain winless in their last seven Serie A games 


Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti with the win over Salernitana has now become the coach with the most wins in the history of the Italian Serie A with 276 wins.

Torino for the first time in 47 years recorded their first victory over Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi with that game also ending 1-0.
