Moutaraji’s Brace Dethrones Al Ahly As Wydad Win Champions League Title

Wydad Casablanca of Morocco were crowned winners of the 2021/2022 CAF Champions League after a 0-2 win against consecutive Champions, Al Ahly of Egypt on Monday in the final match.

Two goals in either half from Zouheir El Moutaraji lifted Wydad to CAF Champions League title on home soil at the Stade Mohamed V, Casablanca.

Wydad’s Guy Mbenza hit the crossbar in the 11th minute before the first goal of the game four minutes later.

Zouheir El Moutaraji skipped past defenders and find some space before firing a long-range strike at goal.


The fans were amazed when they saw the ball go into the roof of the net for the opening goal of the game.

In the 48th minute, Zouheir El Moutaraji again fired a rebound into the top left corner after the ball breaks to him in the box to score the second goal.

Al Ahly tried to come back but all attempts proved abortive as Wydad claimed the title.


With the victory, Wydad ended Al Ahly’s dominance in the CAF Champions League as the latter had won the previous two editions before this defeat.

Wydad will represent Africa at the next FIFA Club World Cup.

The Moroccan side will also play another Moroccan team, Berkane in the Super Cup after the latter defeated Orlando Pirates on penalties to win the CAF Confederation Cup.
