Matteo Berrettini Retains Queen’s Title, Hubert Hurkacz Triumph At Halle

Matteo Berrettini successfully defended his Cinch Championships title, beating Filip Krajinovic 7-5, 6-4 in the final.

This makes it two consecutive titles for the Italian who is now 9-0 on grass this year. He is 20-1 since 2021, 32-3 since 2019.


He becomes the 8th ever player to defend a title in this tournament — all the other seven were former number ones.

He is also the 1st player in the Open Era to win two titles in his first two appearances.

‘To be honest I have too many emotions, coming back from surgery and winning two titles in a row, defending my title here, I don’t want to cry,’ he said.

”I can’t believe it. I arrived in Stuttgart and wasn’t feeling great, hitting the ball the way I wanted, but it went pretty well.

I couldn’t ask for a better preparation, but this isn’t preparation it’s one of the most prestigious tournaments we have.”


25 years old Hubert Hurkacz emerged champion of Terra Wortman Open at the Halle Westfalen, Germany.

The Pole downed Daniil Medvedev 6-1, 6-4 to win his first title on grass and his fifth career title.

With the win, he is back to top 10 next week before dropping the points from the Wimby SFs.

“I’m super excited, I’ve been waiting a little bit for my first [title] this year,” Hurkacz said in his on-court interview.

“I’m happy to win my first ATP 500 title and of course, on the grass it is very special.
