Manchester United Submit Bid For Mason Mount But Have Several Serie A Midfielders As Back Up

Written By Onyeka Daniel

In the past weeks, talks have continue to circulate that England midfielder, Mason Mount is pushing for a move away from Chelsea and has picked Manchester United as his preferred destination, but Chelsea aren’t giving up yet in convincing the player to stay and sign a new deal.

More Details

In the event that they can’t find an agreement before the transfer window opens, a move will be sanctioned for the player but the Blues would prefer not to strengthen a rival.

According to reports, the Red Devils have already agreed personal terms with Mount and are preparing to agree a fee with Chelsea to get the deal done. According to The Telegraph, Man Utd make an offer of £50m to sign the midfielder and they believe the fee should be enough to secure the signature.

But Chelsea will reportedly demand for €80 million, a fee that United would definitely baulk at. Should they fail to reach an agreement, United have several other options as back up. Juventus midfielder, Adrien Rabiot and Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat are the two options and a move for either one of them would be easier than Mount.

Rabiot’s contract with Juventus will expire in July this year and he’s expected to walk away from the club with United waiting in the wings to snap him up for free. It’s also worth noting that they tried to sign the Frenchman in the last summer transfer window, but the Bianconeri were unwilling to listen to any offer.

Now, they can’t do anything to stop his exit. Sofyan Amrabat is another player that the EPL side are interested in, although reports from Spain have it that Barcelona are also interested and have intensified contract talks with the Moroccan’s representatives recently.

Amrabat would be a more financially-viable option for Barcelona, and with Fiorentina open to selling, it could be a deal that can be pulled off. However, it is likely that Man United will offer more, which could complicate things.

All in all, it’s quiet possible to see United signing two of the three names mentioned, but they could also sign all three, especially if they can get a reduced fee for Mount.

While also making space available in their squad by offloading the likes of Scott McTominay, Fred, Christian Eriksen and Donny Van de Beek while Marcel Sabitzer is also expected to return back to Bayern Munich after a 6 months loan spell.

Meanwhile…

Arsenal have reportedly turned their attention to the signing of two exciting players from Leicester city and will be eyeing a cut price deal for the duo after the Foxes were relegated at the end of the season, but they’re not alone in the pursuit, especially for James Maddison.

Newcastle have been the club linked to the England midfielder as they have held a long-term interest in the 26-year-old. Eddie Howe tried to bring the Leicester star to St. James’ Park last summer but the Tyneside club were unwilling to pay the £60m the Foxes wanted for the midfielder.

As for Belgium midfielder, Youri Tielemans, a move abroad (Barcelona) could be on the card as he would be joining his new club as a free agent, but the Gunners are definitely interested as they tried to sign him in the past without success.

With Leicester City’s relegation from the Premier League confirmed, it is expected to trigger a mass exodus from the club. Already, Caglar Soyuncu has already joined Atletico Madrid, but as a free agent and more are expected to follow suit in this summer transfer window.
