Manchester City Positioning Themselves To Sign Barcelona Midfielder In The Summer Ahead Of Bayern Munich

Written By Onyeka Daniel

In an unexpected twist, Barcelona could lose one of top midfielders to the free transfer market as Gavi could become available during the summer transfer window for any interested club.

More Details

Gavi is one of the most promising talents in world football and a player that every top side in Europe will want to have on their books.

Even with a reported release clause of €1bn, he could realistically depart Catalonia for nothing if Barcelona fail to resolve the midfielder’s contract, as the club and LaLiga are in a legal dispute over their finances.

With League governing body invalidating Gavi’s last contract at the club, it means he will become a free agent in June. A host of clubs are very much interested in the player with Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Liverpool all holding an active interest in the young talent.

The Cityzens, led by their coach, Pep Guardiola wants to bring the player to England and losing out on the 18-year-old would be a massive blow, especially with Ilkay Gundogan also set to leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of this season.

Bayern are also interested, but they will have to let one or two of their players go to make room for the Spaniard in their squad as they have too many players currently in his position.

This is highlighted by the fact that they allowed German midfielder, Marcel Sabitzer leave the club to join Manchester United on loan in January. For Liverpool, a total overhaul of their midfield is expected and handing Gavi the reins of their new midfield would be a huge statement.

But the player has always maintained that he wants to stay at Barcelona, his boyhood club that he graduated from their famous La Masia academy.

The Spanish international is simply too good a player to miss out on, and with each passing day one step closer to Gavi, incredibly, leaving Barcelona for nothing, City have to ensure they are the club that lands the 18-year-old in the summer in what could be one of the deals of the century.

Meanwhile…

Brighton and Hoves Albion striker, Evan Ferguson has attracted the interest of Barcelona, who will compete with EPL clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea and West Ham for the Irish international in the summer.

Ferguson began his football career in his native Ireland, representing St. Kevin’s Boys FC and Bohemian FC. But the teenage sensation has risen to prominence since arriving at Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2021. He is the latest in a long line of talented prospects unearthed by the Seagulls and has become a regular this term.

The 18-year-old was recently in the spotlight when he scored for the Republic of Ireland in a friendly win over Latvia and he has also made his mark for Brighton’s first team, scoring seven goals and making three assists in 16 appearances.

His performances hasn’t gone unnoticed with clubs now queuing for his signature but Brighton will definitely want to keep him and help him continue his development at the club for the time being.
