Written By Onyeka Daniel
Portuguese defender, Joao Cancelo has secured his exit from English Premier League side, Manchester City as he joins Bayern Munich on a loan move after falling out with Pep Guardiola.
More Details
It’s bad enough that City are allowing last season’s key player to exit, but it’s even worse that they’re not moving to sign any player as replacement, but it’s looking like it’s all part of a long planning to get their hands on one of their long term target.

Bayern Munich defender, Alphonso Davies has been one player that Guardiola admired so much and reports have it that the Cityzens will make a move for him in the summer as a direct replacement for Cancelo in their squad.
The 22-year-old joined Bayern from Vancouver in January 2019 and has gone on to make 137 appearances across the board, scoring six goals with 21 assists. Bayern would be hesitant to let Davies go as he’s a regular under Julian Nagelsmann and has a bright future for club and country, but Cancelo could take his spot in the side.
He’s shown he’s more than able on the left. With Benjamin Mendy still suspended two years on following a rape allegation, his exit is all but assured as his contract expires in the summer.
Consequently, the move for Davies would become more important as the likes of Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake play more as a centre-back than as a full-back. City would be hoping that the smooth relationship between the two teams can help facilitate a move for Davies in the summer.

City could also be considering a move for Inter Milan defender, Denzel Dumfries in the summer to strengthen their right-back as the exit of Cancelo will leave them thing there.
While 18yrs old Rico Lewis has made the position his own recently, there’s the need for adequate cover as Kyle Walker at 32yrs isn’t getting any younger. Inter Milan are holding on to their €50 million valuation of the Dutch defender and this sentiment was echoed by Dumfries agent, Rafaela Pimenta in a recent interview.

“Inter do very well,” Pimenta said of the Nerazzurri’s transfer negotiations, “when you look at top teams around the world, they’re afraid of negotiating with them. They don’t sell for cheap,”
“They set a price for a player and then they stick to it.” She further added. A player plus cash offer could help unlock the move with the Nerazzuri in need of defensive reinforcement with the expected exit of Milan Skriniar.
