Madrid CFF Continue To Struggle Under Maria Pry

Written by Oluwaseun Oyediji

Madrid CFF has now lost nine Spanish Primera Iberdrola games in a row. The club reacted in January by signing María Pry and dismissing Víctor Fernández.

More Details

Madrid CFF is in free fall. The last defeat against the bottom team Rayo Vallecano is a sign of the bad moment that the Madrid women are going through.

They have already recorded nine defeats in a row and have gone from living in the quiet zone of the classification and looking down.

However, they are only four points behind Eibar and two places above the relegation zone.

The team will still face Athletic, Real Sociedad, Barcelona, and Real Madrid. With eight games to go, María Pry’s women need to react as soon as possible.

Zero of the last 27 points, one victory in the last twelve games, that is, three of the last 36 points and nine consecutive losses, and very bad feelings. Salvation goes through a reaction as soon as possible and at Madrid CFF they know it.

And that the season did not start badly. After a debut with defeat against Athletic, they chained five games without losing and even managed to place sixth in the standings. But in mid-October, everything went wrong.

Defeat against Alavés at home and against Eibar, also at their stadium.

It seemed that the course was straightening out beating Villarreal and Sporting Huelva, but nothing was further from reality. Since then twelve games with only one win and eleven losses, nine of them consecutive.

The club realized that the team was bleeding. Five defeats in a row, the last one against Villarreal in their stadium, made the board of directors react that dismissed Víctor Fernández and in a blow of effect signed María Pry to put him in charge of the project.

An applauded movement, but that, at least for now, has not borne fruit. With the Sevillian, four more defeats are added.

In those twelve games of free fall, defensive fragility has been the predominant note. 31 goals, that is, 2.5 goals per game.

Meanwhile…

What’s more, it is already the team that has conceded the most goals in Primera Iberdrola with 52, more than the bottom team (46) or Villarreal that follows with 49.

The lack of forcefulness at the back has been another handicap when the attack ultimately depends on Geyse’s inspiration. The Brazilian has scored 16 goals out of the team’s 35 and, since Kerolin’s departure in the winter market, the attack has been greatly diminished. And that the Madrilenians in these last twelve games average 1.4 goals per game. They have scored 14 goals, but the dependence on Geyse is total.
