Yesterday, Juventus played against Lazio at the Allianz arena and the Bianconeri were winners in the game with a scoreline of 3-1, but the away side were far from happy with some of the decisions from the referee.
Neither Maurizio Sarri nor Lazio players spoke to the media after the loss against Juventus to protest the referee’s decisions. The Bianconcelesti were furious after Dusan Vlahovic’s opener in the first half, as they thought Weston McKennie had not prevented the ball from going out in the build-up.
According to a report, more decisions from referee Fabio Maresca infuriated Sarri and his staff members, so the Biancocelesti decided not to talk to the media after the final whistle. Juventus were 2-0 up at the break, while Luis Alberto’s goal in the second half was quickly cancelled out by Vlahovic’s second goal of the day.
Lazio have collected three points in the opening four Serie A games this season, having also lost against Genoa and Lecce. Their only victory so far in 2023-24 came in an away match against defending champions Napoli before the international break.
This coming Tuesday, Lazio will host Atletico Madrid at the Stadio Olimpico in their Champions League debut this season.
Lazio opponent in the UCL, Atletico Madrid have not had it easy with injuries this season as another of their player picks up what looks like a lengthy injury. The incident occurred yesterday in their 3-0 loss to Valencia away from home.
Towards the end of the first half, Thomas Lemar went down injured and subsequently had to be stretched off. The Frenchman, who was holding his foot/ankle, appeared to be in serious discomfort. Atletico later posted that they fear Lemar has suffered a serious Achilles injury.
“Thomas Lemar was taken off on a stretcher after falling at a bad angle during the game (vs Valencia) and the medical services, in a first examination, fear a serious injury to the Achilles tendon. Pending tests to confirm a definitive diagnosis.”
If Lemar has damaged his Achilles tendon, a lengthy lay-off will follow. It leaves Atletico Madrid head coach with further headaches, with Rodrigo De Paul already out injured in midfield. However, club captain Koke Resurreccion is nearing a return, and could be fit for the midweek trip to Lazio.
