In a move that was totally unexpected, the leaders of the English Premier League table, Arsenal have completed the signing of Italian midfielder, Jorginho from their London rivals, Chelsea.

More Details

The 31-year-old will join on an initial 18-month contract with the option to extend by a further year, adding some much needed depth to the Gunners midfield. It comes amid concerns over the options available to the Mikel Arteta as the Gunners continue their push for the Premier League title.

They will pay £10million up front for the Italian international with a further £2million in add-ons. With Mohamed Elneny injured for a period of time as well as an injury scare surrounding Thomas Partey after he was substituted halfway through the FA Cup clash with Manchester City, the need for signings was clear.

Their initial target was Brighton midfielder, Moises Caicedo, but the Seagulls have made it very clear that the player isn’t for sale at any price now.

Instead Arsenal may now have to wait until the summer before they can make another move for the Ecuadorian after seeing two bids rejected, including a second bid of about €70 million.

“We need some more cover in midfield ideally if we can, but in this market it is pretty complicated to do that,” Arteta said recently.

Meanwhile…

With the transfer window less than 24 hours to it closing, English Premier League side, Newcastle United are frantically searching for a replacement for Jonjo Shelvey who recently joined Nottingham Forest.

Several names have been mentioned, but it seems like the Magpies have now decided on Chelsea midfielder, Connor Gallagher to strengthen their midfield as they look to ride their current form and clinch a top four placing at the end of the season.

Everton recently made an offer of €45 million for the player and Newcastle are now prepared to dive in with their own offer, but with the exit of Jorginho, it will be hard seeing the Blues selling Gallagher too at this point.
