After two and a half years as assistant to Lluís Cortés, the 2020/2021 UEFA Women’s Champions League winners, FC Barcelona have announced Jonatan Giráldez as the women’s team Head Coach until 30 June 2022.

Jonatan Giráldez was unveiled as FC Barcelona’s new coach following Lluís Cortés’ decision to step down from the role.

Giráldez had assisted Cortés throughout the last two seasons and a half, and he is to become head coach for one season with the option to a second.

Before joining FC Barcelona, he first worked for the Catalan Football Federation as a national manager, analyst, and fitness trainer for various boys and girls teams. He also taught at the Coaching School, lectured at university, and worked as a football commentator on television (TV).

Giráldez signed his contract on Friday, July 2, 2021, in the office of Barcelona’s President Joan Laporta, where the two gentlemen were joined by director Xavier Puig, the director of sport, Xavier Budó, and the manager of women’s football, Markel Zubizarreta.

He enters the big shoe Luis Cortes who won a treble including the elusive UEFA Women’s Champions League with the team last season.
