Few hours to the kick off of the UCL clash between Real Sociedad and Inter Milan, it was revealed that Turkish midfielder, Hakan Calhanoglu had picked up an injury in training and was ruled out of the game, but it wasn’t clear yet how long he would be out.
The former AC Milan midfielder has become an important piece of Simone Inzaghi’s system, at least, this became the case after they sold Marcelo Brozovic and in his place, Albanian midfielder, Kristjan Asllani is expected to step up.
In a report that will definitely be a source of joy to the manager and Inter fans, it has been revealed that he wouldn’t be out for long. Calhanoglu could already be back from injury in Inter Milan’s Serie A clash with Empoli this weekend.
This is according to Sky sports, who report that there is no real worry about the seriousness of the 29-year-old’s injury. The Turkish international stayed behind while the rest of the squad travelled to Spain for the Champions League group stage opener.
The reason for this was that Calhanoglu had suffered a strain to the adductor muscles in his left thigh. According to the report, there is no worry within Inter about Calhanoglu having a serious muscle problem.
The 29-year-old should be able to return soon. The only question, with Inter having several matches on the way, is in which one. So far this season, Calhanoglu has started every single on of Inter’s matches in Serie A. In fact, the report further stated that he was left out of today’s game as a precaution.
Inter’s fixture list is quickly piling up after this evening. So absolutely no one wants to take risks with Calhanoglu’s fitness, he could even be rested for the game against Empoli to help him recover fully or play him from the bench. Starting next Sunday, Inter will play three Serie A matches in the space of less than a week.
The first match of that sequence is away to Empoli. Injury prone Stefano Sensi is also reported to have picked up another injury, but there’s no confirmation yet or a word from the club. The injury is said to be a muscle strain in the quadriceps of the left thigh.
For AC Milan goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, he will likely miss the next two Serie A games against Hellas Verona and Cagliari, but is expected to be back against Lazio on September 30. Maignan suffered a flexor injury during Milan‘s 0-0 draw against Newcastle on Tuesday, but medical examinations have ruled out a lesion.
Report has it that the outcome of Maignan’s physical tests means the France international will miss games against Hellas Verona and Cagliari and be back against Lazio on September 30. Milan will meet Hellas Verona at San Siro this coming Saturday, while the following match with Cagliari will be played in Sardinia on Wednesday, September 27.
Maignan’s teammate Ruben Loftus-Cheek was also subbed off on Tuesday against Newcastle, but didn’t need medical tests as he only had cramps. However, the Englishman will probably be rested against Hellas Verona this weekend and should be back against Cagliari.
