How Napoli Could Lineup Under Antonio Conte Next Season

Written By Onyeka Daniel

Barring any last minute change, former Serie A defending champions, Napoli are expected to announce the appointment of Italian tactician, Antonio Conte as their next manager, and by extension, we’re offered a glimpse of how the team will look like heading into the 2024-25 season.

More Details

Despite the recent claim by Conte’s assistant that the former Spurs and Chelsea manager is open to new ideas, tactics and formation, he’s expected to at least start out with his trusted 3-5-2 formation and consequently, it could mean the exit of Georgian winger, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Already, Victor Osimhen is bound for the exit door, even if his destination is still unknown, but Piotr Zielinski is definitely headed for newly crowned Serie A champions, Inter Milan on a free transfer. For the Partenopei, they’re expected to continue with Alex Meret in goal.

While Contini and Gollini should continue as second and third choice. For the defense, they will try to sign at least one centre-back (Alessandro Buongiorno possibly) to compliment the likes of Leo Ostigard, Amir Rrahmani and Juan Jesus. Out wide, captain of the side, Giovanni Di Lorenzo should play on the right, that is if he can sort out his future with the club.

Also Pasquale Mazzochi can also play in that position and they could bring in a player for that position if Di Lorenzo is eventually sold. On the left, former Getafe defender, Mathias Olivera should play ahead of Natan, with the latter also able to play in the left centre-back role.

For the midfield, Stanislav Lobotka should play at the base of the while Frank Zambo Anguissa and Cajuste should play slightly ahead of him. The attack should see the highest movement with Matteo Politano possibly exiting too, just like he did when Conte joined Inter Milan few years back.

Instead, the club will try to give the manager two names, Romelu Lukaku and Albert Gudmundsson, funded by the exit of Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen. A report from Gazzetta dello Sport has it that Conte has received the green light to sign the Belgian from Chelsea.

But they could lose Kvaratskhelia, for whom PSG already offered €80m. Conte is on the verge of becoming the new Napoli coach, and even if club president Aurelio De Laurentiis said on Monday that the next ten days would be decisive, multiple reports in Italy claim the Italian tactician is the chosen one at the Stadio Maradona.

Gazzetta confirms Conte has agreed to sign an €8m-a-year contract, including add-ons, and is just reviewing all the details of the agreement with his lawyers and agents, making him the highest paid coach in the Serie A, heading into next season.Conte receives green light to sign Lukaku from Chelsea.

According to the report Conte has also received the green light to sign Lukaku from Chelsea. The Belgian striker scored 64 goals in 95 Inter appearances under Conte and will return to Stamford Bridge this summer after a one-year loan at Roma. Lukaku may be included in a swap deal for Victor Osimhen, who dreams of playing for the Blues according to Gazzetta.

Perhaps, this is why PSG made an €80m offer to sign Kvaratskhelia and would have ‘no problem’ in reaching €100m to complete his signing, taking the place of Kylian Mbappe in the team, who is on the way to Real Madrid.

The proceed from these transfer will help them launch an attack for Gudmundsson, Lazar Samardzic and a defender or two to complete the team. Players like Jesper Lindstrom, Giacomo Raspadori, Giovanni Simeone, Cyril Ngonge and Mario Rui will be given the chance to impress before deciding whether to retain or sell them off.

According to a report from Tuttomercatoweb, the Partenopei are also dreaming of a summer deal for Roma star Paulo Dybala, and this could put the pair at a different club after playing with the Giallorossi in the just concluded season.

The 30-year-old Argentinian forward has just over a year left on his current contract with the Giallorossi, which contains a €12m release clause for foreign clubs and a €20m clause for other teams in Serie A. Roma are hoping to renew Dybala’s contract, possibly removing these clauses, and have confidence that an agreement can be reached soon.

This season, the Argentine forward scored 16 goals and provided 10 assists in 39 matches across all competitions. The report details how Napoli’s priority is to finalise the arrival of Conte, who’ll sign a three-year contract to start his new project.

And they are then ready to switch focus to the transfer market, wanting to give the coach the right reinforcements to start turning things around. The Partenopei are dreaming of a move for Dybala, who’d be welcome in Conte’s squad.

But would need to fight off competition for the star forward’s signature. He would be considered an alternative to Gudmundsson, but his great understanding with Lukaku could be an added advantage, but his history with injuries would count against him.
