The attacker is a subject of keen interest from top European clubs especially Chelsea but Milan is working to tie him to a new contract.

Leao’s current deal expires in 2024 and the public opinion is that the 23 year old does not want to sign a new deal at the San Siro outfit.

However, transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio has spoken contrary to multiple reports flying around concerning the winger.

“I remain, against the grain of public opinion, and confident that Leao will renew his contract with Milan,  that an agreement will eventually be found. From the signs I have it is not yet a closed deal but the parties are negotiating with great willingness to stay together.” Said the transfer expert via SkySports.

The club revealed a couple of months ago that the two parties are in negotiations but did outline that an agreement is far from being reached.

Meanwhile…

Di Marzi went on to clarify thy the contract standoff cannot be the reason behind the player’s poor form.

Leao has failed to find the target in over ten games across all competitions but the Italian journalist does not believe his contract dispute could be responsible for that as he’s still got over a year left on his contract.

“I don’t think the contract can have any kind of influence in Leao’s performance. Firstly because there is still a year and a half to go before the expiration date, and secondly because there is an ongoing negotiation with offers from Milan and demands from the player.”

AC Milan are in the quarter finals of the Champions League and are well placed to finish in the top four in the Italian Serie A.

The club will however be hoping to have their star player back in top shape for the rest of the season.
