In October last year, Barcelona president, Joan Laporta made the decision to sack Ronald Koeman as the coach of the club and replaced him with Xavi Hernandez.

At that time, Koeman had become a sort of pariah at the club before his sacking, which was in contrast to his status when he played for the club.

Koeman enjoyed a great playing career at Barcelona after joining Johan Cruyff’s side from PSV Eindhoven in 1989.

His return to Barcelona at the start of 2019/20 was met with a mixed response from the fans following a below par spell in the Premier League. Relations continued to deteriorate further, despite a second place league finish in 2020, before he was eventually sacked.

Despite his unceremonious sacking, after he had complained of lack of complete trust from the Joan Laporta led board and lack of backing in the transfer market, he still insists he would not have done anything different during his time in charge.

“It was a difficult time for the club, without a president, and with Laporta’s doubts about me as coach”, Koeman said. “You want to be a coach, and you know if you don’t win you will have problems, but I made an effort. “If it happened again, I would do it the same and I don’t regret it.” He further added.

Koeman has been unemployed since then and while there is a report that he’s set to take charge of the Dutch national team after the World Cup, he seems intent to take a break from football this year before making a return in the nearest future if the opportunity arises.

Barcelona target, Robert Lewandowski is continuing to push for a move away from Bayern Munich as he wants to play for Barcelona and according to his former agent, the Polish striker is being driven by the desire to rival Karim Benzema.

Lewandowski has just one year left in his contract with the Bavarians, but the club is determined to hold onto him for the duration of his contract while the player has been pushing for a move, even going as far as releasing public statements to that effect.

According to his former agent, Cezary Kucharski, Lewandowski wants to prove that he’s the best striker in the world at Barcelona. “He wants to show that he is better than Benzema, it is another reason to go to Barça,” he said.

“Lewandowski has no dreams. For him, playing football is a job and he is very professional. Real Madrid and Barça are at the same level.” “Barça and Lewandowski are going to fight for this signing. I think he is going to sign for Barcelona, I see it possible,” he added.

“He has to put pressure on Bayern to release him from his contract. The Bayern leaders know he wanted to go to Spain. His The plan was Germany, then Spain and finish his career in the United States.”

Barcelona already made their first offer for the player, which was rejected and they’re expected to come up with an improved offer, but it is still unclear how high they’re prepared to go to in their quest to sign Lewandowski, but their coach, Xavi Hernandez sees the Polish striker as an important piece in the team he’s trying to build for next season.
