European nation, Croatia once again showed consistency at the World Cup after emerging bronze medalists at the soon to be concluded Mundial in Qatar on Saturday.

The Vatreni defeated the Atlas Lions of Morocco in the third place match by two goals to one to go home with another medal just like they did four years ago at the Russia 2018 World Cup.

A repeat of the first group game between the two sides where it ended, but this time it was different as goals from Mislav Orsic and Josko Gvardiol defeated the Northern African side.

Croatia took a seventh-minute lead through a stunning diving header from Gvardiol to cap off a fine tournament for the impressive 20-year-old centre-back.

But Morocco responded immediately as Achraf Dari nodded home from close range just two minutes later.

Croatia restored their lead, though, in the 42nd minute with a wonderful curling winner from Orsic as his first-time effort inside the box bent past Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou and went in off the far post.

The second period became more attritional as both sides suffered injuries and put everything on the line one last time after their superb campaigns in Qatar.

Croatia’s Andrej Kramaric even left the pitch in tears with what looked like a thigh injury while Dari also hobbled off having opted to continue after the restart despite struggling at the end of the first half.

By the 67th minute, Morocco had made all five of their substitutions.

But despite Morocco’s best efforts to find an equaliser, Croatia held on for victory, matching the feat of their heroes from 1998.

37-year-old Croatain star, Luka Modric has stated he is not ready to call it quit on international football as he feels happy playing for the team.

“About my future? I don’t know if I will be (playing) until the Euros in Germany,” he told beIN Sports when asked about Euro 2024.

“We will see. I need to go step by step. I am enjoying the national team. I feel happy.

“I still think I can perform on a high level and I want to continue until at least the Nations League.
