Cadiz Escape Punishment From La Liga, Spanish Football Federation Over Fans Unruly Conduct Against Real Betis

Written by Olaleye Oluwadamilola

On Friday, Cadiz’s startling performance continued as they lost to Real Betis 2-0 at the Nuevo Mirandilla. Mauricio Pellegrino’s team has lost six of their past seven La Liga games and has not won in 20 games overall (their last victory came against Villarreal in September).

It makes sense that the club’s supporters are quite angry, and at the conclusion of the Betis match, a large number of them tossed their raincoats into the field of play in protest at the team’s terrible performance. The pitch became so unusable that referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea had to terminate the contest thirty seconds early.

Due to the fact that De Burgos Bengoetxea neglected to mention the incident in his referee report, MD has stated that neither La Liga nor the Spanish Football Federation will penalize Cadiz for it. In this case, clubs would normally be penalized; fortunately, the Andalusians will escape punishment.

Vitor Roque was sent off against Alaves last weekend for two yellow cards, therefore he won’t play in Barcelona’s La Liga match against Granada on Sunday. Replays of the second one revealed that he little touched Rafa Marin, which made it much more contentious, but the Catalan side’s two appeals were turned down.

Roque was upset at his dismissal and expressed his disappointment to MD about the appeals’ denial, which means he would not be able to maintain his strong play from earlier in the season.

“I think the yellow card was unfair, at least the second one, and now I have to serve a penalty. It was the referees’ decision, Barcelona tried to appeal in every way, so I have no choice but to serve a ban and prepare for the next game”.

“I wanted to be on the pitch to help my teammates as I had been helping, but now I have to keep my head calm and keep working.”

When Barcelona plays Granada at Montjuic, they will be hoping that Roque won’t be missed too much. Because Real Madrid and Girona play each other in the first vs second match on Saturday, it might be a momentous weekend for Xavi Hernandez’s team.
