The departing Barcelona captain has spoken about the upcoming UCL final in Instanbul.
Inter Milan will face off against English champions Manchester City in the final of the Champions League on June 10.
The showdown which has been said to be City’s to lose despite Inter’s giant strides in this year’s tournament has created lots of talking points.
Simone Inzaghi has kept a low profile with his team while they prepare for the all important match in Turkey.
Manchester City on their part have enjoyed widespread acclaim as the favourites going into the tie, something that has somewhat put pressure on Pep Guardiola’s team.
Sergio Busquets was speaking to Gazzetta ahead of the final game and having faced off twice against the Nerazzurri during the group stages, he reckons the Italian giants pose a serious threat to City’s aspirations.
“Everyone thinks City will win, but watch out. First because anything can happen in a final, and it’s not a cliche. And second, and this is even more important, when you play against a team like Inter who have such a precise, identified and well-tested system, with 5 defenders, 3 midfielders and two forwards, everything becomes very difficult.”
“Inter closes very well, in the middle they are very organised and have the help of the forwards. I say this from experience, because we played them twice this year and suffered. Inter may not create many chances, but they play with two forwards against two centre-backs, and there, in this situation, I see Inter capable of damaging City. Anything can happen.”
Busquets recently ended his eighteen year long stay with Barcelona after helping them to reclaim the La Liga title.
The former Spanish international also spoke about Jose Mourinho and his romance with finals.
Mourinho’s Roma square up against Sevilla in the Europa League final on Wednesday and Busquets advised the Giallorossi have to retain a clear idea against their Spanish opposition.
Asked about the Portuguese being in another final: “Exactly. He is always there. They suffered with Leverkusen but I repeat, there is an idea. More so: ‘Ok, for me defending is easier than attacking’, but this involves the difficulty of having to convince the players to make a huge sacrifice.
“Falling back for 90 minutes is complicated, everyone has to work, collaborate, stick together, suffer. Persuading Eto’o to play full-back is not so obvious. You must have clear ideas and personality”.
Roma would aim to become the first team to defeat Sevilla in the final of the Europa League when hostilities begin on Wednesday.
