A player that sets himself apart from the regulars and discharges his duties with distinction, Luka Modric is the GOAT of the present day midfielders.

It is no more a doubt that Luka Modric is one of the best midfielders of this generation, that being established as a fact due to a well detailed analogy of his football intelligence and contributions.

The choice of the 37 year old as our best midfield player of the year ended 2022 was a no brainer taking into accounts his output for the Real Madrid team that conquered Spain and the whole of Europe as well as the Croatian national team that finished third at the World Cup.

The Zadar born diminutive maestro helped Real Madrid to a double of both the Spanish La Liga and Champions League last season as well as lifting the Supercopa de Espana and the UEFA Super Cup.

Modric did not only participate in these victorious runs but made himself the fulcrum of that Real Madrid team. A dynamic player by standards, the Croatian captain is a delight to watch on the ball and a lion off it.

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was named in both the La Liga and Champions League teams of the season as well as the ESM team of the year for the 2021/2022 season.

His exploits with Real Madrid in 2022 could have been termed as a fluke or one sided with the crop of superstars at the Spanish giants had he not carried it into the World Cup in Qatar. He won three man of the match awards in Qatar and finished with the bronze ball as the third best player of the tournament behind only Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe who were both finalists.

Modric won the Marca Leyenda award given to the best sports men in 2022 and also the Football Oscar prize for the best Croatian footballer of the year, an award he was wining for the tenth time.

At the ripe age of 37, the trivela king continues to wow the football world with his domineering performances every week and has recently committed to yet another deal with the Spanish champions.

Other midfielders such as Kevin De Bruyne, Federico Valverde, Pedri Gonzalez, Nicolo Barella and Bruno Fernandes did put in decent shifts over the course of the year but it was Modric who stood tallest amongst them all and easily wins the award of our best midfielder for the year 2022.
