Earlier during the summer transfer window, Barcelona were looking to get rid of a number of players, including Netherlands forward, Memphis Depay, but he ended up staying after his proposed move to Juventus collapsed over salary issues.

More Details

His contract with the club is set to expire at the end of this season and he’s largely expected to leave in the summer of 2023, barring any last minute changes.

When he first joined in 2021, as a free agent, he started off well by scoring some important goals but an injury putting a stop to that. Despite that, he was the club’s joint top scoring alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who arrived in January.

The arrival of new forwards, Ferran Torres and Aubameyang meant he played less when he recovered. For this season, the club’s preferred front line is Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Ousmane Dembele, pushing Depay to the bench.

He was expected to leave, but according to the latest report from SPORT, Barcelona are now considering the possibility of offering Depay a new contract for another year, as long as his salary is favorable for the club.

This is partly down to Xavi Hernandez, who is said to have been impressed by the level of professionalism shown by the player during the transfer speculations. Having requested a salary of about €7 million from Juventus.

Then it’s safe to say that is his range, but the Blaugrana will leave all talks until after the World Cup, to see how the player fares at the tourney.

On the last day of the summer transfer window, Barcelona tried to move on their veteran defender, Jordi Alba, to Italian side, Inter Milan, but the player rejected the move, as he wanted stability ahead of the World Cup.

With the club’s intentions now known, the player is said to be considering his options and will be looking to leave the club, as early as January. This season, he’s now been relegated to a bench role, largely playing second fiddle to young talent, Alejandro Balde for the left-back position.

Another Italian side, Juventus, is now eyeing a move for the player and could move as early as January. With a contract set to expire in 2023, a move away from the Camp Nou looks imminent for the Barcelona veteran whether in January or later in the summer.
