Barcelona Defender Set To Retire At End Of Season With Another El-Classico On The Cards

FC Barcelona Femeni defender, Melanie Serrano has announced that she will retire at the end of the season.

The defender’s contract with FC Barcelona will expire at the end of the current season.

She confirmed her retirement last week in a press conference which was expected to serve the purpose of speaking on her contract extension with the Catalan side.


“It’s not a goodbye or a see you later; I’m always here because Melanie is Barça and Barça is Melanie .” Says Melanie Serrano.

The 32-year-old spent all her football career at FC Barcelona.

She has scored seven league goals for the team in the past seven seasons.


FC Barcelona will face Real Madrid in La Copa De La Reina Semifinal. The tie will take place on Wednesday 25 May.

Barcelona defeated Rayo Vallecano 1-3 in the Round of 16 before seeing off Real Sociedad 0-3 in the quarter-final.

Real Madrid and FC Barcelona Femeni have met five times this season, twice in the league and the UEFA Women’s Champions League as well as once in the Spanish Women Super Cup semi-final.

FC Barcelona Femeni won all the five previous encounters this season and will hope to continue its El-Classico Women’s dominance over Real Madrid.
