AS Roma’s Midfield Line Up For Next Season Taking Shape

Written By Jacobs Dunga

The Giallorossi are intent on tying down the core of the midfield players well ahead of next season.

More Details

AS Roma as per Calciomercato may have reached an agreement with two of their most important midfielders for a contract renewal.

The players in question are Bryan Cristante and Nemanja Matic both of whom have been integral parts of Jose Mourinho’s midfield setup.

Matic arrived from Manchester United last summer to bolster the midfield. He was seen as more of an immediate solution but the Serbian is proving to be more than that with consistently impressive performances.

Matic’s ever presence in the team is said to have earned him an automatic extension on the one year deal he signed when he arrived last term.

Bryan Cristante will also see his stay extended by another four years as a reward for his selfless and dedicated service to the club’s ambitions.

The Italian midfielder has been at Roma since 2018 when he first arrived from Atalanta as a 23 year old.

Only the official announcement is said to be missing as both players have agreed to new contracts with the club.

Meanwhile…

On loan Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has not really impressed the decision makers at Roma and could yet return to his parent club.

Injuries have hampered Wijnaldum’s shine at the capital club as he only recently returned from a lengthy layoff that saw him miss the first half of the season.

The 32 year old is owned by PSG and is loved in the capital but his injury problem has halted his progress at the club.

A fee of around €10m is expected to be enough to secure his services on a permanent basis but Roma director as per Calciomercato is already planning a fresh discussion with the French club to extend the loan by another year.

The latest development indicates that the club are unwilling to splash as much as the asking price on a player that’s not guaranteed of staying fit and at 32 years of age already.
