The 25-year-old, who has played 22 La Liga games and recorded four goals and one assist, has flourished in a holding role for the league’s biggest teams this season. He has also increased his goal threat.

In addition, Zubimendi participated in every minute of Real Sociedad’s undefeated Champions League group-stage run, which saw Imanol Alguacil’s team advance to face Paris Saint-Germain in the round of sixteen. This season, Sociedad is also vying for Copa del Rey glory; they drew 0-0 with Mallorca in the semi-final first leg on Tuesday.

Zubimendi’s contract with Sociedad is set to expire in three and a half years, but the Spain international—a member of La Roja’s 2022–23 Nations League winning team—has unavoidably been linked to a transfer to the Premier League.

Although these rumours proved to be untrue, Zubimendi’s signing in January was reportedly being pursued by Arsenal, who has long been seen as the front-runner for the midfield player.

FootballTransfers now claims that Liverpool are prepared to enter the race as well, and the Reds have said they are prepared to exercise the €60 million (£51.3 million) release clause in his contract.

If Xabi Alonso replaces Jurgen Klopp as manager, Liverpool’s chances of winning the race for Zubimendi could be much enhanced. This is because the Bayer Leverkusen manager had a working relationship with his compatriot while he was Sociedad’s coach.

Jadon Sancho has joined Borussia Dortmund on loan from Manchester United for the remainder of the 2023–24 campaign.

Two and a half years have passed since the England international permanently switched to the Red Devils, who paid £73 million for his services in the summer of 2021.

“Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho has rejoined former club Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season,” the Red Devils said in a statement. “The England international of 23 caps leaves with our best wishes for the remainder of this season.”
