The 25 year old wide forward is having a season to remember in the blue and black shirt of La Dea with twelve goals already scored in twenty league appearances.

Lookman was born and grew up in the United Kingdom where he also started his footballing career.

He then moved to Germany to team up with RB Leipzig before returning on loan to England with Fulham, then Leicester City.

He left the Foxes after the end of last season to secure a permanent move to Italy with Atalanta where he has rediscovered his scoring form.

He said after a goal scoring performance against Sampdoria where his side won 2-0 that he’s not surprised by what he’s currently doing in front of goal.

“We got three points today, that’s the most important thing. We keep on fighting, keep on working hard.

We take it game by game. We got three points tonight, we’ve got another game in the Coppa Italia on Tuesday and yeah, we just keep on fighting.

Did I expect to be this successful? Yes! Of course, I expected it. Maybe it’s a surprise to you, but I know what I can bring, I know what I can do. The team is the most important thing.

The differences? Different circumstances, different scenarios that made me who I am today and that’s me as a whole person. I think I’m in the right moment, doing the right things, keep staying disciplined in what I do.” He told Sky Italia as quoted by TuttoAtalanta.

His next stop will be a big test against Inter Milan at the San Siro in the Coppa Italia quarter finals as both sides aim to book a place in the last four.

Meanwhile…

Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has heaped praises on Saturday opponents Sampdoria for their determination in staying competitive until the end of the game.

The home side scored deep into the first half with Lookman adding a second in the second period but it was the fight shown by Sampdoria that impressed Gasperini.

“This season is strange for the fact that it was broken up for the World Cup. When the championship started again we noticed that we weren’t in such a bad shape. We put a little more fight. We’re more careful and more focused.

These are always matches that look easy on paper but are very difficult. Sampdoria defend very well and close the spaces well. They never gave up and the game was open until the 90th minute. I know the Champions League questions have been going all season, but as always we’ll see where we are with 10 rounds to go and if we need to have the final surge, we’ll be ready.

Lookman scored a great goal tonight, he’s helping us as much as anyone. Both for the goals and the contribution he gives to the team is important. Boga must attack the area more, he has the potential to do it better and be decisive.

Stankovic? I didn’t have men against me at Inter as far as I know. Stankovic as well as a few other players had a few aches and pains. I was really hoping to start again with them.”

Atalanta are now up to fourth on the log pending when other games are concluded on Sunday.
