2023/24 French D1 Arkema MD1 Review: Holders And Contenders Off To Winning Start

The top three teams at the end of last season all won their opening league games as the 2023/2024 French women’s top-flight league (D1 Arkema) got underway last weekend.

Holders, Lyon thrashed Le Havre 4-0 at the Stade Océane, Le Havre, with Eugenie Le Sommer opening the scoring for the league winners on Friday.
Captain Wendie Renard, Danielle van de Donk, and Vanesa Gilles scored the other goals with Le Sommer and Renard bagging an assist.
Paris FC also won their game against Lille in a similar manner thanks to goals from Clara Mateo, Gaetane Thiney (brace), and Louna Ribadeira.
Goals from Sakina Karchaoui, Sandie Baltimore, and Grace Geyoro lifted PSG to a 3-0 win over Bordeaux at the Stade Sainte-Germaine, Le-Bouscat, on Sunday.
Fleury 91 picked a 3-1 win against Guingamp as Batcheba Louis and Ewelina Kamczyk (brace) ensured that Marie-Charlotte Leger’s goal for Guingamp was a mere consolation.

Returning team to the top flight, Saint Etienne got a 2-0 loss to Stade de Reima at the Stade Louis Bleriot N°2, Betheny, on Saturday.
A brace from Shana Chossenotte was all it wrote for the host against the returning side.

Another brace from Faustine Robert secured a 2-0 victory for Montpellier against DFCO Dijon.
Overall, Lyon top the table after the opening set of games in the league with a superior goal advantage over Paris FC, PSG, Fleury, Montpellier, and Reims which all recorded wins.
