The 2023/2024 German Bundesliga season got underway during the weekend with holders, Bayern Munich dropping points while former winners, VfL Wolfsburg earned a 3-0 win over Bayern Leverkusen on Sunday.

Freiburg in the first game of the season forced holders, Bayern Munich to a 2-2 draw at the Dreisamstadion, Freiburg on Friday.

With 11,000 fans in attendance, Janina Minge’s seventh-minute goal erupted the joy of fans before Lea Schuller silenced the excitement with the equaliser in the 21st minute.

Katharina Naschenweng thought she had won the game for the visitors in the 90th minute before Svenja Folmli made it 2-2 in the additional minutes of the second half.

Wolfsburg capitalised on Bayern’s slip to record a 3-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen at the AOK Stadion, Wolfsburg, on Sunday.

Alex Popp set up Lena Oberdorf for Wolfsburg’s opener in the 15th minute before Lena’s namesake Lattwein doubled the lead in the 21st minute.

After the interval, Iceland forward, Sveindis Jane Jonsdottir sealed the win in the 48th minute.


Hoffenheim thrashed Duisburg 9-0 to take an early lead at the top of the table on superior goal difference after the opening matchday of the German Bundesliga women’s season.

Melissa Klara Kossler’s hat-trick lifted the hist to the biggest win of matchday one.

Werder Bremen moved to the second position with a 5-1 win against FC Nurnberg on Saturday with the top two teams setting a combined 14 goals range.
