A couple of well-known rivals will compete for the trophy in the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) final, which gets underway in Bilbao on Saturday: Lyon, which is playing in its 11th final since 2010, and Barcelona, which is playing in its fourth final in a row.

These two teams have already met in the 2019 and 2022 finals, therefore this will be their third meeting in the UWCL title game.


In addition to winning both of those previous matches against Barcelona, Lyon has won eight Champions League trophies in total, which is more than any other team.

For Sonia Bompastor and Jonatan Giráldez, this will be their final encounter in charge of both teams with Bompastor set to replace Emma Hayes at Chelsea FC while Giraldez switches to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side, Washington Spirit.

During their employment, both managers have won a single UWCL trophy, while as a player, Bompastor brought two Champions League trophies to Lyon.
